One of two telephones used by Alexander Graham Bell in a demonstration that took place between Boston and Salem, Massachusetts on November 26, 1876. Bell's greatest success was achieved on March 10, 1876, when he conducted the first successful telephone transmission of clear speech using a liquid transmitter when Bell spoke into his device, “Mr. Watson, come here, I want to see you.” and Watson heard each word distinctly. By 1877, construction of the first regular telephone line from Boston to Somerville, Massachusetts, had been completed. The date was February 14, 1876.
